Mischa Kuball
Mischa Kuball, a conceptual artist, and has worked in the public and institutional sphere since 1977. Using light as a medium, he explores architectural spaces and their social and political discourses. He reflects on the various facets, from sociocultural structures to architectural interventions, that accentuate or reinterpret the character of landmarks and their architectural-historical context. In politically motivated and participatory projects, public and private spaces merge, enabling communication between the audience, the artist, the work itself and the urban space.
Mischa Kuball has been a professor of public art at the Academy of Media Arts, Cologne since 2007, was a professor of media art at the University of Arts and Design/ZKM, Karlsruhe from 2006-2008 and a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts in Düsseldorf since 2015. In January 2016, he was presented with the German Light Art Award.
